The Ohio Valley College Institute for Adult Learning has entered into a co-operative agreement with Wood County Schools to serve as the host institution for the Wood County Schools Practical Nursing Program, beginning in July, 2002.

  • Program duration is one calendar year (12 months, July to July), meeting in day classes Mondays through Fridays.
  • Graduates qualified to sit for the West Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing Exam.
  • Students in the program may also apply concurrently for up to 48 credit hours from Ohio Valley College.
  • Credit hours may be applied toward requirements for an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from the College and are transferable.
  • LPN classes will meet on the OVC South Campus, Stanley Allied Health Center building, which contains program offices, a simulated hospital room, classroom space and student lounge.

Prospective enrollees in the program must meet entry requirements set by the Wood County Schools Adult Education Program, which include a high school diploma or GED, and successful placement via a nursing program pre-test. The program qualifes for Federal financial aid (PELL grants and/or Stafford Loans), which may be applied for through Wood County Schools. The program also qualifies for state tuition support through the West Virginia Workforce Investment Board (for qualified applicants). Current class sizes average 35 students, but classes fill early and well in advance of the July start.
